Mayo Wynne Baxter is one of the largest law firms in the South East with around 200 staff based in Lewes, Brighton, East Grinstead, Eastbourne and Seaford.
As a leading firm of Sussex solicitors, Mayo Wynne Baxter provides a comprehensive and personal service to a broad spectrum of local, national and international clients.
The firm specialise in all aspects of business law and personal legal services as well as offering tailored legal advice to core industry sectors throughout the UK.
The firm’s history can be traced back to the 1860s. It was founded by Wynne Edwin Baxter, whose Coroner’s career included investigating the Jack the Ripper murders and the death of Joseph Merrick, the ‘Elephant Man’. By 1907 he had led inquests into more than 30,000 cases.
In recent times the firm has expanded through mergers. In 2007 Eastbourne solicitors Mayo & Perkins joined East Sussex based Wynne Baxter. Another merger with East Grinstead’s Allen Ticehurst Solicitors at the start of 2012 extended our reach into the Gatwick Diamond and Mid Sussex areas.
In addition to all the services you’d expect from a large regional firm of solicitors serving individuals and the business community, our specialist teams practice niche areas of law. These include intellectual property, contentious probate, travel law, clinical negligence, agricultural business law and professional negligence. We also have a team of bilingual lawyers that deal with international matters, such as buying property overseas, inheritance matters crossing international borders and doing business abroad.
The firm’s 30 partners attribute its success to offering specialist legal expertise and industry-leading customer service. The firm’s mantra is: ‘exceptional service from outstanding people’. Many of our legal advisers are recognised as leaders in their field of law by professional bodies and listed in The Chambers Directory as well as the independently researched Legal 500 Clients’ Guide to the UK legal profession.
Mayo Wynne Baxter is one of a small number of practices to achieve Lexcel accreditation from the Law Society. This recognises firms that maintain standards of excellence in practice management and client service.
